Mechanical Handling Engineer

Responsibilities
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes used utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
Prepares standard discipline deliverables and prepares standard engineering budgets and schedules within discipline
Lead engineering efforts on assignments while providing instruction and mentoring junior engineers
Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements
Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
Qualification
Required
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience
Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products
Familiar with the process of resolving complex engineering issues and development of innovative solutions
Working knowledge of SolidWorks and capable of generating engineering quality models and drawings
Perform in a highly collaborative environment where all team members participate in resolving design challenges
Preferred
Have working knowledge of Unity 3D Game Engine
