They are seeking a Chief Technology Officer to provide technical leadership, oversee the engineering team, and guide the development of innovative safety systems for extreme events.

Responsibilities
Own mechanical system architecture from early concept through refinement
Translate high-level requirements into viable mechanical designs and subsystems
Review, validate, and pressure-test designs for feasibility, manufacturability, and reliability
Identify technical risks early and guide mitigation strategies
Interface with adjacent disciplines (electrical, materials, manufacturing, testing)
Identify, recruit, and oversee a small team of mechanical and supporting engineers
Set technical standards, design review processes, and documentation expectations
Delegate execution while maintaining architectural coherence
Mentor engineers and ensure quality without micromanagement
Act as final mechanical sign-off authority
Advise leadership on timelines, tradeoffs, and build-versus-buy decisions
Support external collaborations (e.g., academic or research partners) as technical lead
Contribute to long-term system roadmap and scaling considerations
Maintain confidentiality and discretion around proprietary concepts
Qualification
Required
Senior or principal-level Mechanical Engineer
Experience leading mechanical design for complex or safety-critical systems
Proven ability to build and guide small engineering teams
Strong systems thinking and design judgment under uncertainty
Comfortable operating with incomplete inputs and evolving constraints
Low-ego, high-standards leadership style
Interested in ownership and long-term impact, not hourly billing
