Assistant Project Manager (Heavy Civil / Roadways / Highways)
MasTec Civil, LLC is a heavy highway contractor specializing in the construction of complex transportation projects. The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for overseeing construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications while coordinating with various teams and managing project documentation.

Responsibilities
Make a thorough study of the project to be performed
Discuss your plans, schedules, details issues and any other items with your Management team
Assess your needs fully including personnel, equipment, materials, etc. and the time frame feasible for performance
Determine your best course of action and continue planning throughout the project for possible improvements
Attend all progress meetings with the Owner/Engineer and ensure that all required documents are submitted to the Owner in a timely manner
Conduct internal scheduling meetings with the Superintendents, Foremen and Subcontractors on a regular basis in order to properly coordinate work areas, labor, equipment, material and survey needs
Conduct Pre-Activity Meetings prior to significant items of work to discuss responsibilities, means & methods, MOT requirements, safety aspect, quality control requirements, etc
Coordinate the projects staffing needs with the Human Resources Department
Ensure that the company policies are enforced
Supervise the Project Engineer and other engineer staff
Coordinate with the Project Engineer the hiring of outside Specialty Engineers for items of work that require highly technical analysis
Familiarize yourself with your contract, specifications, plans, addendums, revisions, special provisions, permits, utility relocation schedules, etc
Review and approve all invoices, subcontractor payments and timesheets prior to processing at the Main Office
Study each cost report in detail and note all variances in costs from estimates
Discuss with the Estimator all variances noted
Evaluate the cost effectiveness of the procedures in place and replace all those that are deemed ineffective
Ensure that change orders and/or claims are properly documented, prepared and submitted to the Owner in a timely manner
Review and approve all budget changes and cost transfers
Provide a monthly Project Status Report to accompany the monthly cost report
Ensure that the monthly cost reports are reflective of the actual field performance
Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors ensuring timely payments in accordance with subcontract requirements
Manage the subcontractor and vendor claims, change orders and disputes
Ensure that all project team members are submitting their required documentation
Keep a detailed daily Diary of the project
Ensure that project photos and meeting minutes are being taken and filed accordingly
Notify the client should a project record be inaccurate and/or incomplete
Ensure that the project is in compliance with the company and OSHA safety regulations
Communicate and interface with the Company’s Safety Manager as required to ensure compliance with safety policies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Minimum five years' experience in the heavy construction industry. Must have bridge, roadwork, and DOT experience
A demonstrated understanding of construction means, and methods associated with the heavy construction industry
Strong team leadership project management skills
Experience in leading multi-disciplined teams
Ability to direct the work of subcontractors in order to achieve project goals
Computer knowledge musts: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook, Project scheduling - P-3 at minimum
Ability to maintain onsite project documentation
Ability to schedule and coordinate all site work
Must be well organized and detail oriented
Ability to multitask and manage multiple sites
Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to interact with people on all levels ensuring that all external and internal communication is carried out to a high standard
