Reliability Engineer

Sangtera is a deep-tech hardware startup developing micro-scale electrowetting-based actuation and positioning systems. They are seeking their first Reliability Engineer to establish and lead reliability engineering, focusing on hands-on experimentation and technical leadership to ensure product robustness.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)ElectronicsManufacturing

Responsibilities

Establish Sangtera’s reliability framework from the ground up
Identify dominant failure modes across materials, microsystems, and full products
Define reliability metrics appropriate for early-stage hardware moving toward production
Design and execute accelerated life tests, cycling tests, and stress experiments
Build custom test setups and instrumentation as needed
Perform detailed data analysis and translate results into engineering decisions
Document methods, results, and conclusions in clear technical reports
Evaluate electronic materials and assemblies under electrical, thermal, and environmental stress
Investigate degradation mechanisms such as dielectric breakdown, corrosion, delamination, and fatigue
Guide materials selection and design tradeoffs based on reliability risk
Design lifetime and robustness tests for electrowetting-based systems
Analyze failure mechanisms involving dielectrics, surfaces, interfaces, and working fluids
Collaborate with design engineers to improve stability, repeatability, and lifetime
Study fluid and emulsion stability, aging, contamination, and material compatibility
Design accelerated aging and chemical compatibility experiments
Work cross-functionally to mitigate chemistry-driven reliability risks
Develop reliability approaches for tightly coupled micro-scale electrical, mechanical, and chemical systems
Correlate accelerated tests to real-world operating conditions
Influence product architecture and operating envelopes based on reliability data
Present findings, risks, and recommendations directly to the CTO
Partner closely with product design and manufacturing engineering
Help translate reliability learnings into design rules and process controls
Rapidly understand Sangtera’s technology, materials stack, and operating regimes
Identify top reliability risks and unknowns
Design and begin executing a focused reliability test plan
Establish baseline lifetime and degradation behavior across key subsystems
Implement accelerated testing that correlates to real operating conditions
Drive design or process changes to address dominant failure modes
Identify, execute, and demonstrate a clear plan achieving at least 3 months of continuous operational lifetime under defined conditions
Deliver data-backed confidence in product robustness and remaining risks
Formalize reliability test methods suitable for future qualification and scale-up
