Director of Purchasing
Global Recruiters of Prosper (GRN) is seeking a Director of Purchasing to lead the purchasing function across residential construction projects. This role is responsible for cost control, vendor strategy, contract compliance, and process standardization, working closely with various departments to ensure operational efficiency and cost certainty.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all purchasing activities across projects, ensuring consistent execution of bidding, contracting, and vendor selection strategies
Establish and maintain purchasing policies, procedures, and controls to support cost management, compliance, and scalability
Direct project-specific and annual bidding processes by cost code, including bid strategy, vendor participation, compliance audits, and award recommendations
Provide executive-level oversight of contract negotiations, pricing reviews, scope alignment, and vendor performance
Own standardization of contracts, scopes of work, bid documents, and purchasing systems to ensure accuracy and consistency across divisions
Oversee development and maintenance of bid books, comparison analyses, commodity databases, and pricing benchmarks
Partner with Estimating and Construction leadership to validate budgets, turnkey bids, unit pricing takeoffs, and cost assumptions
Ensure accurate setup of house plans, material estimates, and budgets within operating systems
Lead resolution of escalated invoicing issues related to customer options, budget changes, and contract discrepancies
Provide governance over lien release processes, ensuring timely execution and risk mitigation across all projects
Lead vendor strategy, including onboarding, preferred vendor programs, performance evaluation, and quarterly vendor orientation
Manage, mentor, and develop purchasing staff, providing direction, workload prioritization, and performance oversight
Serve as a senior resource during periods of high volume by providing guidance or direct support related to estimating or permitting coordination when required
Collaborate cross-functionally to support continuous improvement initiatives, cost-saving opportunities, and operational efficiencies
Perform other duties as required in support of division objectives
Qualification
Required
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in purchasing and estimating within single-family residential construction, including leadership or supervisory responsibility
Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, scheduling, safety standards, and purchasing best practices
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of estimating, takeoff, and construction management systems
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex workflows, and influence cross-functional stakeholders
Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related business discipline preferred
