Associate Geologist / Environmental Scientist
Parsons is a company dedicated to building critical infrastructure and improving communities. They are seeking an Associate Geologist / Environmental Scientist to perform geological and environmental tasks, including fieldwork and project management, to support environmental site characterization and remediation efforts.
Responsibilities
Perform various field and office tasks requiring the application of standard geological and environmental science principles and theories
Conduct soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and other environmental sampling
Soil classification and sampling during drilling, test pitting, and excavation activities
Assist with supervision of drillers and other subcontractors
Execute field projects with health and safety as the top priority
Complete field documentation such as activity hazard analysis (AHA) forms, project field reports, field notes, sampling records, and chain-of-custody forms
Assist in geologic and environmental analyses and interpretation, which may include hydrogeology and/or geochemistry
Analyze and interpret environmental sample analysis results within the context of the geological setting
Prepare figures of environmental data, potentiometric surface maps, geologic maps, and cross sections
Develop materials and assist in completing reports on finished field work
May provide technical guidance to lower-level geologists or environmental scientists
Work with project managers, using interpersonal and organizational skills, to ensure projects are completed on time and budget
Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Geology or related field and typically 0+ years of related work experience
Preferred
A familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred
Ability to work in a hybrid work arrangement. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Parsons office (Denver area), virtual office at your own home, and project locations throughout Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, California, and potentially other states. The candidate for this position shall be located in the Denver area
A valid driver's license, the ability and willingness to travel to and from field locations up to 70% of the time
Should be able-bodied as the work requires some physical exertion such as extended periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities
Work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., hot, cold, rain, snow)
Demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills
Maturity in interaction and ability to operate self-sufficiently in the field or as part of a team
