ANALYST II

The California Coastal Commission is a small state agency responsible for protecting and enhancing California’s coast and ocean resources. The Education and Outreach Analyst will lead and support statewide education and engagement projects, working collaboratively to promote environmental stewardship and connect people to the coast and coastal watersheds.

Responsibilities

Leading and supporting multiple statewide education and engagement projects
Including contests for youth and adults and California Coastal Cleanup Day
Working on a variety of projects to engage Californians in appreciation and stewardship of the coast and ocean

Required

Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov. Writing Sample of no more than one page that describes your experience managing a statewide contest and the steps you took to carry it out
A list of software apps and platforms that you frequently use with a brief explanation of how and why you use each of them

Preferred

Managing statewide contests, including entry process, outreach, winner selection, prize donations, promotion, and exhibit logistics
Strategies for outreach to a broad statewide audience, including schools, school districts, local governments, and non-profit organizations
Environmental issues of importance to the coast and ocean including climate change and plastic pollution
Researching and approaching corporate entities for donations and program participation
Demonstrated creativity in program implementation and innovation
Software applications and platforms including Microsoft office suite, Alchemer, Woobox, mapping applications including ArcGIS web apps, Canva, Constant Contact, Survey123
Creating, navigating, and managing large spreadsheets and the ability to learn new software tools quickly
Creating appealing visual materials across multiple media
Enthusiasm for environmental education, outdoor access, and coastal conservation
Careful attention to detail
Strong organization skills
Ability to complete complex projects on a deadline
Courteous and timely communication with colleagues, partners, and the public
Ability to complete multi-part tasks and effectively work on multiple projects
Strong writing skills, including translating complex topics into accessible language
Independent, professional work habits
Ability to work collaboratively
