ATTORNEY, ASSISTANT CHIEF COUNSEL
Caltrans District 3 is seeking an Assistant Chief Counsel for the Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST). The role involves providing legal guidance on training and selection standards for police officers, investigating police misconduct, and supporting various legal issues within POST's operations.

Responsibilities
Work with POST staff and the POST Commission on legal issues involving development and implementation of training and selection standards, certification of police officers, investigation of police misconduct cases for purposes of decertification, and supporting POST’s various bureaus with a wide range of legal issues involving POST’s operations
Common tasks include working with executive management on various matters involving POST operations; working with POST’s Professional Conduct Bureaus in investigation of police misconduct and the selection and preparation of cases for decertification; coordinating with the Office of the Attorney General regarding litigation involving POST; analyzing court records to determine peace officer disqualification; appearing before the Peace Officer Accountability Advisory Board and the POST Commission; responding to Public Records Act requests; handling internal personnel matters; analyzing local agency compliance with POST regulations; determining legal requirements for law enforcement training; implementing and interpreting legislative mandates; and drafting proposed legislative language
Qualification
Required
Incumbent must maintain active membership in the California State Bar and be a member in good standing
The position(s) require(s) a(n) California State Bar Membership License
You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired
A fingerprint check is required
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) shall be typed in 12-point font, with one-inch margins and shall not exceed two pages in length
The SOQ must describe, in narrative form, how your education, training, experience, and desirable skills make you a competitive applicant for the position
