Communication Studies Instructor - Full-time Faculty
Antelope Valley College is seeking a full-time Communication Studies Instructor for a tenure track position. The role involves teaching, participating in curriculum development, and engaging in professional activities to support student learning and equity initiatives.

Responsibilities
Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Communication Studies using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies
Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students
Responsible for preparation time
Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals
Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives
Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc
Provide an environment conducive to effective learning
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Travel between District locations is also expected
Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication; OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/ theater arts, mass communication or English; OR the equivalent
A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Preferred
A strong generalist background, including Public Speaking, with ability to teach and support incarcerated and system-impacted students using culturally responsive practices; experience with Prison/Carceral Education programs (e.g. Rising Scholars) is strongly preferred
Demonstrates teaching experience and effectiveness across diverse class formats (e.g., face-to-face, fully online, fully online-live, partially online, online-proctored assessment, and Hyflex), utilizing technologies such as learning management systems and video conferencing platforms
Knowledge of diverse learning styles and teaching pedagogies with understanding of varying levels of student preparedness
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement ideas for the benefit of students enrolled in a Communication Studies program by developing and revising curriculum to offer a diverse array of courses across the discipline, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in program review documents
