Responsibilities
Assist in the development and execution of a strategic outreach plan to strengthen existing and develop targeted relationships with public and private employers in the legal and business sectors to increase short-term and permanent employment opportunities for JD students and recent graduates
Design and develop marketing material to employers, including website content; compose content and coordinate timing of communications to employers, and manage follow-up communications with employers
Assist the Assistant Dean in scheduling and attending employer outreach visits
Conduct ongoing assessment of employer relations efforts and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of such efforts
Oversee the management of the employer database and provide data and analysis relating to employer contacts and hiring patterns
Establish best practices for and manage employer notes kept in the database. Manage and educate students on using the employer database
Participate in various local, state, regional, and national organizations to increase employment opportunities for students and alumni
Provide input and assistance on employer participation in student professional development programing and events
Provide career advisement, assessment, and job search resources to law students for summer and post-graduate employment as well as law school alumni making career transitions based on knowledge of the legal profession
Exercise discretion in providing career strategy guidance based on the needs of individual students and alums
Contact current judges and former judicial clerks to learn about judicial clerkship opportunities and hiring preferences of judges
Work with students to encourage interest in judicial clerkships, prepare and compile clerkship application packets, and submit them to judges on a timely basis
Track clerkship hiring results for each class and provide an analysis of clerkship application and employment data
Assist with the judicial clerkship job fair that includes the other four Georgia law schools and is held in Athens each year in conjunction with the state court judicial conference
Maintain extensive understanding of the unique aspects of the legal job market for public interest and government careers and employers including, without limitation, nonprofit providers of civil legal services, public defenders, prosecuting attorneys, nonprofit educational and public policy organizations, the military, and federal, state and local government agencies
Maintain extensive knowledge of, identify opportunities for, and manage administrative functions connected with fellowships, stipends and other funding for students working in public interest and government positions, both during summers and after graduation
Work closely with the experiential education faculty to advertise, market, and develop internship and externship opportunities to students
Assist in coordinating on-campus recruitment to address program resources, employer and student accessibility, and policy/procedure formulation
Assist with check-in of employers as part of the on-campus recruitment program
Assist in large office projects and other duties assigned by the Assistant Dean such as employment outcome reporting, establishing new off-campus interview programs, and planning events designed to introduce students to employers and alumni
Qualification
Required
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with students, alumni, law school faculty and staff, and members of the legal community in a manner that supports their needs and enhances the reputation of the law school and its students and alumni
Ability to cultivate, develop, and manage relationships with important constituencies such as students, alumni, and employers
Knowledge of the legal job market, and legal employment in general
Ability to work in a thorough and efficient manner and produce real results
Positive, cheerful attitude, and 'team player' approach to work and colleagues
Strong organizational skills and work ethic
