Mechanical Engineering Intern
Lockheed Martin is a leading technology innovation company that focuses on purposeful innovation to solve complex challenges. They are seeking a Summer 2026 Intern for the Space Science and Instrumentation Team, where the intern will contribute to the design, development, analysis, and testing of spacecraft instrumentation equipment.

Responsibilities
Contribute to the design, development, analysis, and testing of spacecraft instrumentation equipment for both internal research and development projects as well as program support
Qualification
Required
Pursuing a Masters degree or PhD from an accredited university or college majoring in mechanical, aeronautical/aerospace, or equivalent degree
Experience using software utilized in the design/analysis of hardware (CAD - Computer Aided Design and/or FEM - Finite Element Analysis, Thermal Desktop, or similar)
Research experience in astronomy or astrophysics
Proficient in Matlab and Python
Instrumentation development and/or research experience
Preferred
Prior NASA project experience
Experience working with James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and/or Hubble Space Telescope (HST) data
Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) concept experience
Application of mechanical and/or structural design in real-world/in-class applications
Basic knowledge of hardware applications in space environments
Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Fluids and/or thermal design experience
