Vice President of Software Engineering

Confidential company is seeking a Vice President of Software Engineering to provide executive leadership over large-scale software development organizations. This role involves driving the technical vision, ensuring delivery excellence, and building high-performing engineering teams to support a rapidly scaling, technology-driven business.

Responsibilities

Define and own the long-term engineering strategy, architecture vision, and technical roadmap in alignment with company objectives and product strategy
Lead multiple software engineering teams through senior engineering leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Data, Security, and Infrastructure leaders to ensure seamless execution across the full product lifecycle
Establish and enforce best practices for software development, including SDLC, CI/CD, code quality, testing, observability, and incident management
Drive predictable, high-quality delivery across complex, multi-stream initiatives while balancing speed, scalability, and technical debt
Own engineering operating metrics such as delivery velocity, system reliability (SLAs/SLOs), defect rates, and platform performance
Oversee technology modernization efforts, including cloud-native architectures, platform evolution, and legacy system transformation
Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier engineering talent; build succession plans and strong leadership benches
Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements relevant to enterprise-grade software systems
Communicate effectively with executive leadership, translating technical concepts into clear business impact and risk assessments

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred
12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant time in senior engineering leadership roles
Proven experience leading large, multi-team engineering organizations supporting mission-critical, customer-facing systems
Strong background in modern software architectures (cloud-native, microservices, APIs, data-intensive systems)
Demonstrated ability to scale engineering processes and teams in high-growth environments
Deep understanding of agile and lean delivery methodologies at enterprise scale
Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred

Experience in SaaS, platform-based, or highly scalable B2B/B2C technology environments
Track record of successfully modernizing legacy systems while maintaining business continuity
Experience partnering with executive leadership and boards on technology strategy and investment decisions
Familiarity with global, distributed engineering team management
