The National Park Service is seeking a Utility System Repairer-Operator for the Blue Ridge Parkway. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, repair, and calibrate a variety of utility systems that require developed skills in various utility-related trades.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, repair, and calibrate a variety of utility systems

Perform maintenance on electrical equipment, plumbing, wastewater treatment operation, water treatment operation, and air conditioning equipment operation

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males

Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program

You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required

You must possess and maintain a North Carolina C- Well Water Operators License and North Carolina Wastewater Treatment Level 1 Operators License by the time of appointment (entry on duty)

You must possess and maintain or be able to obtain within 12 months of selection, a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License

You must obtain and maintain a current NPS working Sawyer certification within 12 months of appointment

You must obtain and maintain a motor vehicle operator (MVO) driver's license by the time of appointment (entry on duty)

You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle

You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards

You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work

You must be able to obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina Department of Health Services Level 2 Wastewater Treatment Operators Certificate within 12 months of appointment

You may be required to travel overnight

You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes

You must have the ability to lift 50 pounds

SELECTIVE FACTOR: Applicants must possess and provide documentation of a North Carolina C well license -AND- a North Carolina Wastewater treatment Level 1 license

Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)

Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)

Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment

Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation repair, etc

Knowledge of materials

Technical practices (theoretical precise, artistic)

Use of measuring instruments
