Senior Property and Evidence Technician
The City of Anaheim is seeking a Senior Property & Evidence Technician for the Anaheim Police Department. This role involves performing complex property control duties, leading staff, and ensuring compliance with laws regarding evidence management.

Responsibilities
Maintain and issue equipment used by police officers and other authorized department personnel, such as cars, flares, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, batteries, weapons, ammunition, office supplies; maintain accurate inventory records of all such transactions
Place orders to replenish office supplies; maintain records of expenditures from accounts; act as the liaison with the purchasing division on blanket purchase orders, delivery orders and master agreements; and order gasoline for police vehicles
Receive, store and maintain custody of evidence and other property; maintain accurate records and store all evidence and other property in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and procedures
Release evidence to officers going to court and for case study; upon authorization release property to rightful owners, including prisoners released from jail; maintain comprehensive, complete and accurate records of each transaction and final disposition of property/evidence
Accurately enter all property and evidence into the computerized inventory system; update records as required; develop and maintain proficiency in the basic operation of existing or evolving electronic computer programs, including department office and inventory software and databases; prepare teletype requests to query serialized evidence, including firearms
Conduct inventory of equipment and property on a periodic schedule; research and locate missing items; destroy or dispose of evidence and property in accordance with all applicable laws and procedures; accurately update appropriate databases in a timely manner; handle and store firearms; conduct lawful destruction of weapons as provided by law
Safely deliver motor vehicles to and from repair facilities; maintain accurate inventory of police vehicles
Respond to questions from the public and co-workers, over the telephone and in person, regarding the release of property and evidence; assist other city employees with booking evidence and property
Assign work, train and review the work of property and evidence personnel; participate fully in the work of subordinate staff
Requisition departmental supplies and forms; maintain records of expenditures from accounts
Qualification
Required
Experience performing responsible police evidence and property control work and supply technician duties
Knowledge of basic math
Knowledge of basic accounting processes
Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access
Knowledge of advanced record keeping procedures used in the issuance, storage and control of material
Knowledge of basic material handling procedures
Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures
Knowledge of laws and procedures related to the preservation of physical evidence
Knowledge of civil, penal and vehicle code regulations relating to the receiving, maintaining, release and disposal of property and evidence
Ability to perform responsible evidence and property control duties with a high rate of accuracy
Ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
Ability to operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices
Ability to read, understand and apply moderately difficult materials
Ability to establish, maintain and modify filing and record-keeping systems
Ability to check, correct, train and participate fully in the work of subordinates
Ability to plan, schedule and make work assignments for subordinates
Ability to write legibly
Ability to understand pertinent procedures and functions quickly and apply them without immediate supervision
Ability to ensure adherence to pertinent local, state and federal laws governing the acceptance, storing and release of property, evidence and firearms
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment and as a condition of continued employment
Preferred
Experience working with police evidence and property control is highly desired
