Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Land Use Engineer to perform technical reviews of land development plans in accordance with VDOT specifications. The role involves administration of land development activities, project management, and providing technical assistance for residential and commercial developments.

Responsibilities

Administer the Residency’s land development activities with stakeholders to include local government, engineering community, developers, and other VDOT staff
Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned
Coordinate plan reviews with the district’s responsible charge engineer, project developer, engineer, and local jurisdictions for residential and commercial developments
Review and comment on plans for land development proposals. Provide technical reviews for preliminary plans, site plans, detailed construction plans and record plats for residential and commercial developments
Review and comment on plans for land development proposals. Prepare correspondence and process forms and applications. Review documents and plans pertaining to land use permits
Provide technical reviews for preliminary plans, site plans, detailed construction plans and record plats for residential and commercial developments
Provide technical review for utility plans and other infrastructure plans

Required

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences

Ability to read, analyze and interpret construction plans, local ordinances, and zoning requirements
Skill in the use of computers and software applications
Valid Driver's license
Ability to apply land use permit policies, construction policies, materials requirements, and street acceptance procedures
Ability to apply roadway geometric design and other engineering principles
Ability to apply subdivision street requirements, entrance standards and road design standards
Knowledge of land use permit policies, construction practices, materials requirements, and street acceptance procedures
Knowledge of subdivision street requirements, entrance, standards, and road design standards

Preferred

A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering or related field is desired
Knowledge of land development plan review
Professional Engineering (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification desired
Skilled in the application of engineering principles to highway construction projects
