Claims Adjuster

They are seeking a Claims Adjuster responsible for investigating and researching casualty claims, determining coverage, negotiating settlements, and making recommendations on legal and coverage issues.

Responsibilities
Contacts all parties involved in the claim to complete full investigation of the facts and damages relevant to the claim
Identifies potential coverage issues and refers claims to Claims Unit Leader as needed
Determines liability and evaluates damages of all exposures related to the claim
Documents findings of investigation
Interprets and applies the insurance policy to the exposures presented within each assigned claim
Analyzes claims to determine the nature of the loss, coverage provided, and scope of claim
Adheres to all state specific laws and regulations
Negotiates the settlement of claims within authorized levels
Manages assigned claims until resolution has been reached, with the exception of those requiring special handling
Escalates claims exceeding authority limits to supervisor
Provides effective and timely communication to all internal and external customers
Identifies exposures and establishes reserves on assigned claim files
Identifies and refers exposures requiring special handling (such as recovery, fraud, or escalation) in a timely manner
Creates and manages timely, clear and accurate documentation and work flow throughout the life of a claim in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures
Provides claim support under catastrophic circumstances as needed
Provides guidance and advice to less experienced claims representatives as needed
Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information)

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Completion of Licensing exam and continuing education requirements as necessary to secure and/or renew the licenses in assigned jurisdictions
Successful completion of an internal special training program required for the additional types of claims (bodily injury)
Five (5) or more years of experience in claims or related work experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone and listening skills
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, Outlook
Preferred
Progress toward an insurance designation such as AIC/AIM/CPCU/SCLA programs
