Accounting Manager
Bagley Consulting is assisting a Private Equity firm in Greater Cincinnati in their search for an Accounting Manager for one of their portfolio companies, a damage restoration company. The role involves managing all general accounting responsibilities, ensuring financial record accuracy, and has potential for growth into a Controller position.
Responsibilities
Own the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries
Perform and maintain comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations (cash, AR, AP, prepaid expenses, work-in-progress / job cost or job cost-related accounts, fixed assets, accruals, and debt)
Ensure general ledger accuracy in accordance with GAAP
Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and internal management reports
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual variances
Perform and review bank and credit card reconciliations
Prepare weekly cash flow reporting. Assist with cash flow forecasting and short-term liquidity planning
Establish, document, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
Ensure segregation of duties where feasible and recommend process improvements
Provide oversight and review of billing, collections, and cash application processes
Partner with operations and project management to resolve billing issues and accelerate cash collections
Monitor A/R aging. Review allowance for doubtful accounts and recommend write-offs as appropriate
Oversee AP processes including vendor setup, invoice coding, approvals, and vendor payments
Ensure proper accruals for vendor costs, subcontractors, and credit card activity
Review AP aging and manage cash flow priorities
Maintain vendor relationships and resolve discrepancies or disputes
Manage and reconcile third party credit card programs
Prepare and review payroll entries and payroll-related reconciliations
Ensure that direct labor is accurately applied to job costing
Periodic review of job costing for accuracy and issue identification – cost overruns, jobs over or underbilled, etc
Coordinate with external CPA firm for year-end audits and tax filings
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements (sales tax, payroll taxes, etc.)
Support insurance audits and lender reporting if required
Maintain and improve accounting systems and reporting tools
Identify opportunities to streamline close, reconciliations, and workflows
Assist with implementation of new systems or process upgrades
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
Strong balance sheet and reconciliation experience required
Demonstrated ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
Working knowledge of GAAP
Experience overseeing AR and AP processes
Preferred
5+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience; construction, restoration, or job-costing experience strongly preferred
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and Excel preferred
CPA or CMA preferred but not required
