Operating Technician
AmSty is a company focused on operating chemical plants safely and responsibly. The Operating Technician will operate equipment, ensure safety compliance, and perform maintenance tasks while working on a rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities
Follows all plant safety guidelines and policies, including fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment, during the execution of job duties
Complies with all environmental, health, safety, quality, and government regulations
Follows procedures for safe startup, shutdown, and operation of chemical plant equipment
Operates valves, pumps, filters, boilers, heat exchangers, distillation columns, treaters, reactors, and other chemical plant equipment
Monitors performance and health of equipment and processes using field rounds, listening to equipment operation, recording instrument readings, and catching process samples
Communicates effectively with other operators, Shift Supervisors, and the Shift Activity Coordinator
Participate in shift relief meetings relaying key process and equipment information
Performs process and equipment troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues
Performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs as required
Writes work notifications to ensure timely equipment repairs
Documents observations and troubleshooting efforts in written logbook entries
Prepares equipment and issues detailed Safe Work Permits
Participates as an active member of the fire brigade
Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
2-year associate's degree in Process Technology
Military rank of E4 or higher and discharged from the military within the last 2 years with Military Occupational Specialty in: Instrumentation, Electrical, Process Operations, Mechanical, or related disciplines
3 years' experience in operations or maintenance at an industrial manufacturing facility
Must be willing and able to work outside, year-round under various weather conditions
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching and rapid work pace, etc
Must be willing and able to wear an air-purifying respirator and SCBA
Must be able to lift to 50 lbs
Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders
Must be willing and able to work in tight, enclosed, or confined spaces
Must successfully complete required skills assessment: Console Operator Basic Requirement Assessment (COBRA)
Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills
Good interpersonal skills (develops positive working relationships with co-workers at all levels and within all organizations at the facility)
Commitment to personal safety
Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal operator training program
Must have valid TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) or be able to secure one within 30 days
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship
To attend to emergencies, successful candidate's primary residence must be within a defined 55-mile radius of the St. James plant or must be willing to relocate to defined 55-mile radius without relocation assistance
