Sr. Automation Engineer
Agnitron Technology, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled, experienced Sr. Automation Engineer to lead the development, procurement, and integration of advanced semiconductor processing systems. The role involves bridging mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to create custom control solutions for semiconductor research and manufacturing.

Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of complex control system architectures for new and existing MOCVD and RTA equipment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with industry standards
Specify and select new hardware and software components, including advanced PLCs, HMI systems, industrial PCs, and motion control systems, based on project requirements and performance goals
Develop and maintain comprehensive electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN), incorporating best practices for manufacturability, safety, and serviceability
Create and manage documentation for new automation systems, including functional design specifications (FDS), software design specifications (SDS), and validation protocols
Architect and implement software solutions in C# and PLC programming languages (e.g., Structured Text, Ladder Logic) to control and monitor semiconductor processing equipment
Develop advanced algorithms for process control, data acquisition, and real-time diagnostics, leveraging object-oriented design principles
Integrate and configure complex industrial networking protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, and OPC UA to establish high-speed, reliable communication between devices
Act as the primary technical lead for automation projects, managing timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables to ensure successful completion
Collaborate directly with cross-functional teams—including mechanical, process, and materials engineers—to define system requirements and troubleshoot complex issues
Serve as a subject matter expert for automation and control systems during customer consultations and field service operations
Analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive the refinement of existing control solutions
Qualification
Required
Strong background in automation systems, robotics, and manufacturing processes
Lead the integration of controls and automation in Agnitron's systems
Assist in wiring and maintaining industrial automation systems
Support real-time diagnostics
Collaborate closely with engineers to implement and refine custom control solutions for one-of-a-kind tools used in semiconductor research and manufacturing

Working knowledge of the principle of operation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) along with experience programming PLCs using Ladder Logic or Structured Text
Hands-on experience wiring low voltage (up to 48VDC) devices and industrial equipment
Working knowledge of serial communications protocols and wiring, such as RS232, RS485, RS422
Working knowledge of DeviceNet (DN) fundamentals, especially Polling DN data communications, understanding power requirements and network topology
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering or Controls Engineering
5-7 years of experience working with automation controls and software
Working knowledge of the Visual Studio (VS) development environment and Windows C# programming using VS
Some experience with debugging and testing C# programs
Some experience with object-oriented design and programming
Familiarity with EtherCAT networking and devices and Modbus over RS485, Modbus over TCP
Familiarity with Beckhoff embedded PC/PLC hardware
Experience with wiring high voltage (up to 480VAC) AC circuits is a plus
Ability to quickly learn and understand the working and control principles of new unfamiliar devices by using manuals, internet searches, expert opinions, AI, and other information sources
