Animal Support Coordinator

Zane State College is seeking an Animal Support Coordinator to coordinate social media and website efforts to reunite lost animals and seek placement for adoptable animals. The role includes compiling statistical data, participating in adoption events, and collaborating with various departments to highlight shelter needs.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and post shelter events, adoption highlights, and other information on social media platforms to elicit community support and action
Maintain a scheduled rotation of Facebook posts to ensure the page remains current and engaging. Provide quarterly statistics on post reach for inclusion in Executive Committee meeting documents
Review and update the RCACP website to ensure accuracy of information to the public
Collaborate with RVTV on Pet of the Week videos and other special filming projects. Coordinate with local media outlets to feature adoptable animals and publicize departmental special events
Collaborate with Front Desk staff to compile required documents for the Bissell Foundation Empty the Shelter grant submission quarterly. Work closely with the Rescue Coordinator to provide weekly adoptable-animal information to the NBC affiliate during the annual Clear the Shelter event
Coordinate and compile quarterly statistical data for inclusion in Executive Committee meeting materials, and serve as the Petzel representative by responding to adopter questions and updating helpful adoption information within the Petzel database
Work closely with the Rescue/Volunteer Coordinator on adoption events and volunteer activities
Prepare photographs, videos, and flyers to highlight adoptable animals, including those with special needs
Update Adopt-A-Pet biographies to provide accurate, detailed information on adoptable animals for potential adopters. Compile and present monthly statistical data to management for use in monthly reports, Fiscal Affairs Committee review, and inclusion in quarterly Executive Committee meeting materials
Serve as a backup for the Foster Coordinator, as needed
Serve as a back up to the front desk staff when necessary
Provides oversight to volunteers, when needed
Serve as an Animal Care Attendant when staffing levels dictate extra help

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent
Some experience working with animals
Some experience in social media publication and monitoring
Valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record
Computer skills to include ability to key forms, create data base, navigate through software, receive and send email and search internet sources
Ability to use sound judgment following department social media guidelines for creating and responding to social media posts
Ability to follow instructions and relay information to other workers
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and RCACP partners
Ability to document work with simple recordkeeping
Skill in the use of animal care tools, supplies and equipment
Subject to a complete criminal history background search with acceptable results
Must maintain a neat professional appearance consistent with company policy
Due to the nature of this role, candidates must have a current rabies vaccination or be willing to obtain one upon hire at no cost, as mandated by Roanoke County
Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description

Preferred

Associate's Degree with major in marketing, media relations, English or relevant combined education/experience
Two or more years of experience working with animals and social media publishing
