Vice President of Agronomy
Ticonderoga Advisory is conducting a stealth search for a potato industry company, and they are seeking a Vice President of Agronomy. In this role, you will be responsible for the health, productivity, and quality of crops across all farming regions, developing and executing agronomic strategy, and leading a team of agronomists and field technicians.

Responsibilities
Design and lead the company-wide agronomic strategy: fertility, seed, varietal selection, rotation, irrigation, pest control, and vine kill
Lead crop planning sessions in partnership with farm managers, ensuring alignment between agronomy, operations, and business objectives
Hold ultimate responsibility for crop performance across company farms, from storage to seed to harvest
Monitor field execution daily, identify issues early, and drive urgent response to any threats to yield, quality, or storability
Ensure precise implementation of SOPs for petiole sampling, moisture tracking, test digs, chem/fert programs, etc
Build and lead a high-performance team of regional agronomists and field technicians
Coach and develop team members, raise standards, and establish a culture of action, ownership, and follow-through
Support the hiring, onboarding, and upskilling of future technical staff
Create and refine SOPs for all major agronomic processes; ensure adherence across locations
Oversee the agronomic data infrastructure: tracking, trialing, and reporting systems that improve decisions at scale
Lead trialing of new varieties, inputs, or practices, and share learnings across regions
Partner closely with farm managers. Agronomists call the shots, and managers execute
Work with procurement to manage input selection, cost, and supply continuity
Collaborate with quality, sales, and storage leads to ensure upstream decisions meet downstream spec and shelf-life goals
Qualification
Required
7–10+ years of experience in fresh potatoes across multiple growing regions; AZ/CA experience highly preferred
Proven record of driving yield, quality, and field-level decision-making
Leadership experience managing teams or owning regional results
Bachelor's or Master's in Agronomy, Soil Science, or Plant Science (or equivalent practical mastery)
Strong fluency in chem/fert programs, irrigation systems, pest management, and crop physiology
Comfortable with tech: spreadsheets, field sensors, GPS mapping, irrigation telemetry, and digital record-keeping
Excellent communicator, capable of translating technical data into simple, confident recommendations
