Senior Design Engineer – Plastic Design

Charles Industries, An Amphenol Company, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead program-level designs and prototype fabrications for complex enclosure solutions. This role involves managing multiple projects, providing technical support in plastic part design, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product development meets established criteria.

Responsibilities

Lead projects from concept through to launch
Provide technical support in plastic part design and processing
Draw and design package preparation and release
Develop requirements and analyze product design data to determine conformance to established design selection criteria, standardized parts and equipment use, and design-to-cost practices
Maintain and upgrade existing products
Establish test plans and execute 3rd party certifications
Lead the development and testing of prototypes for new product ideas and create product specifications
Create and maintain project development plans and create and execute Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
Lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and redesign existing products
Generate and release full bills of material for manufacturing
Identify non-conformances and root causes to initiate and implement solutions
Assist in other duties as required

Required

A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required
10 years of experience in Plastics (injection, structural foam molding) required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize work and adhere to strict deadlines
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and strong problem-solving abilities
Independent and self-driven while working in a team environment
Ability to identify problems that need resolution, propose solutions, and escalate as needed
Understanding of Product Life Cycle Management, RCA, and 3D printing required
Understanding of Tooling and its design for review with 3rd party tool designers required

Preferred

A master's in mechanical engineering is preferred
At least 5 years of CREO/Windchill experience is desired
Experience with another 3D CAD system will be considered
FEA experience (stress, creep, compression, etc.) using CREO Simulate or Ansys
Familiarity with industry standards including: Telcordia Specification, TIA, SCTE, FOA, etc. and the testing required
FRP Composite design and manufacturing desired
Fiber Optics experience desired (patch panel, splice trays, handling, and, routing)
Fiber optic measurement (power meter, OTRD, fiber microscope) desired
SPE member desired
Knowledge of MS Project and Visio desired
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
