EMERGENCY VEHICLE DISPATCHER-Direct Hire Authority

USAJOBS is seeking an Emergency Vehicle Dispatcher at Eglin AFB, Florida. The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency fire, police, and medical services by answering emergency 911 calls and dispatching appropriate personnel and equipment.

Responsibilities

Provide emergency 911 and dispatching services. Determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines
Performs Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers with medical emergencies
Maintain maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs
Operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center
Prepare and maintain reports and records relating to emergency responses

This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
Position may require an appropriate security clearance
Employee must maintain current certifications
Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
All federal employees are required to have direct deposit
Incumbent must participate in recurrent proficiency training, as directed and must participate in exercises by relaying accurate information and be resourceful and alert to adequately perform duties
Incumbent must obtain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Certification as a Telecommunicator, Level II and must be able to obtain and maintain a current EMO certification, including initial and follow-on certification and CPR certified
Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of generalized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems
Knowledge of communications operations, basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data
Ability to read layered computerized grid maps which reflect such systems as electrical, water gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage and pollution control
Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand
Able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergencies and work independently without immediate supervision

Preferred

Knowledge of Medical Dispatch services, 911 and emergency vehicle dispatch/communication operation, and procedures
Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data
Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus, and equipment needed for the emergency at hand
Ability to work independently without immediate supervision
Ability to deal effectively with others in both oral and written communications, to plan, organize and reprioritize work, to meet deadlines
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations
Knowledge of Civil Engineering and associated real property maintenance repair processes, terminology and production requirements to schedule immediate and projected maintenance requirements
