Chesterfield County is committed to supporting businesses in the community through its Economic Development department. The Economic Development intern will work closely with staff and organizations on small business projects, focusing on outreach to Hispanic businesses and engaging with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Work closely with department staff and a business support organization on small business and entrepreneurial related projects
Connect with county staff, organizations, and businesses by phone, in-person, and virtually to obtain information
Engage with Hispanic businesses during events and programs and develop a plan to improve Hispanic business outreach
Perform other work as required

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8
Ability to participate in the full 10-week program
Exhibit a commitment to public service
Genuine interest in learning about public administration
Pre-employment drug testing required
FBI criminal background check required
Education/degree verification required
Ability to work independently with direction
Ability to interact with businesses and staff in various settings
Ability to research, compile and present project data effectively

Preferred

Students majoring in Business, Economics, or Planning are encouraged to apply
Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply
