2026 Summer Intern - Circuit Court Clerk

Chesterfield County is seeking a Summer Intern for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, which plays a vital role in the community by providing administrative support and ensuring transparency and accessibility. The intern will learn to prepare court documents, manage case files, and interact with the public while gaining insight into public administration.

Responsibilities

Conduct phone calls with attorneys/parties
Deliver/pick up case files to/from various offices throughout the courthouse
Audit foreclosure, family cases, and criminal cases
Pull/deliver case files
Generate notices as directed
Attend court proceedings (time permitting)
Data entry
Customer Service support, including, but not limited to dealing with inquiries on the phone, via email, mail and face to face
Follow the policies of the Circuit Court and the Clerk’s office
Meet with your assigned supervisor at least once per week
Work with other interns on shared projects as assigned
Conduct factual research and maintain an accurate list of sources (with links)
Draft process lists and reports as assigned with the support of your supervisor
Attend meetings as assigned
Other duties as agreed upon in your specific work plan or assigned by your school
Perform other work as required

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8
Ability to participate in the full 10-week program
Exhibit a commitment to public service
Genuine interest in learning about public administration
Pre-employment drug testing required
FBI criminal background check required
Education/degree verification required
Professional communication, oral and written
Professional writing
Research and analysis (raw data, peer-reviewed work, discerning quality sources)
Self-directed and self-starter
Efficient but produce high quality work
Ability to work in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's CJIS Security Policy
