Pre-Apprentice Control C&M Technician
Salt River Project (SRP) is one of the largest public power and water utilities in the U.S., providing electricity to approximately one million customers in the greater metropolitan Phoenix area. The Control C&M Technician will construct, maintain, and operate SRP's fully integrated control system while utilizing various software systems and electronic analytical equipment to monitor and maintain electric systems operations.

Responsibilities
Knowledge of but not limited to:
Control systems including construction, operation and maintenance of those systems. Three areas of focus include Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Distribution Feeder Automation (DFA)
+ RTUs are the heart of SRP substation’s supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. These devices are responsible for providing the EMS with the data necessary for safe and reliable operation of the electric grid
+ EMS allows Dispatchers to remotely monitor and operate field devices that are controlled by the RTUs. EMS gathers data from RTUs and interfaces with Dispatchers through visual displays and audible alarms
+ DFA is a system to improve reliability and timely restoration for customers on the distribution network after a primary fault. It is a process used to isolate faults, and reduce the impact of power failure by using a system of pad and pole mounted switches outside of substations
Skills In The Proper Use Of
Tools in the construction, maintenance and operation of the SCADA network in an efficient manner, ensuring a high level of quality assurance
Ability To
Construct, install and maintain supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automatic generation control (AGC), telemetry, digital computer systems equipment and networks, and related electronic systems and equipment
Repair or modify existing equipment to meet specific functional and performance requirements. Analyzes trouble and performs corrective action to return systems and equipment to working order
Work individually or as a member of a team to conceive and/or implement new designs or design modifications to new or existing equipment to enable it to meet functional and performance requirements
Prepare reports of equipment failures, performances and related studies
Follow company policies related to safety and various company procedures. Obtains necessary equipment, outages and clearances
Be responsible for vehicle, test equipment and job material associated with job assignments
Perform related work as required and/or assigned; attend training programs, seminars, conferences and meetings; assists degreed engineers and/or other technicians
Other duties as assigned
Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime

Required

Educational prerequisites as required by the Joint Apprenticeship Corporate Committee
Apprentices and Pre-Apprentices will complete the above tasks and duties under the direct supervision of a journeyworker
