Responsibilities
Own a major modernisation stream on a global payment platform focused on transitioning to microservices and event-driven architectures exceeding 5,000 transactions per second and tens of millions of transactions per day
Design, build, and deliver high-quality, scalable software applications that strengthen Fiserv payment processing capabilities
Collaborate across product, architecture, operations, and compliance teams to translate business needs into technical outcomes
Leverage and extend our core technology stack (Java, AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes) to build secure, reliable, and performant solutions
Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, and driving improvements in CI/CD pipelines
Mentor and uplift the team, sharing expertise and guiding engineers to adopt modern development practices
Act as a change agent to evolve technology, processes, and team mindset toward modern software engineering principles
Drive initiatives from concept to production, balancing strategic modernization with near-term delivery needs
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated leadership delivering complex, distributed systems and modernization programs in production environments
Strong Java expertise, including modern frameworks, performance tuning, and clean, testable design
Hands-on AWS experience and cloud-native application design patterns
Expertise in Kafka or comparable event streaming platforms and event-driven architecture principles
Kubernetes and container orchestration experience, combined with CI/CD and DevOps practices that enable reliable, rapid delivery
Preferred
Background in payments or financial services with awareness of performance, security, and compliance (e.g., PCI) requirements
Experience modernizing legacy, mission-critical systems to microservices and event-driven patterns
Proven success improving throughput and resilience for high‑volume systems
Strong observability and SRE practices (monitoring, tracing, capacity planning)
Experience with distributed transactions, CDC, or eventual-consistency design patterns
History of introducing tools or practices that measurably improved team delivery and product quality
