Associate Safety Engineer - Consultation

The Associate Safety Engineer will perform professional safety engineering work, conducting onsite visits to assess and control safety and health hazards in various industries, while providing recommendations for compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities
Performing independently the full range of professional journey level safety engineering work
Independently conducting difficult and complex onsite visits focusing on small, high hazard places of employment in all industries
Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control safety and health hazards to employers, employees, and employer representatives
Provides recommendations and advice on the abatement of hazards and violations of Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations Safety Orders
Perform all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies and procedures, directives, and memorandums
Qualification
Required
Applicants must be either reachable on an employment list, have transfer eligibility or have reinstatement eligibility
Must have substantive knowledge of technical areas (e.g., electricity, machine guarding, hazardous materials, industrial toxicology, ergonomics, ventilation, fall protection, noise, respiratory protection)
Must be able to conduct difficult and complex onsite visits focusing on small, high hazard places of employment in all industries
Must be able to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control safety and health hazards to employers, employees, and employer representatives
Must provide recommendations and advice on the abatement of hazards and violations of Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations Safety Orders
Must perform all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies and procedures, directives, and memorandums
Must be able to work in an office environment and at field sites with potential exposures to safety and hazardous substances
Must be able to work outdoors 8 hours or more per day in a wide range of weather conditions
Must use personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, hardhat, safety glasses/goggles/visors, hearing protection, shoes, etc
Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, including during meetings, training, or workplace inspections
Must be able to move/walk and stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment or work related materials
Must be able to climb up and down/balance stairs, ladders, stoops, slopes
Must have functional vision
Must be able to travel via private, State vehicle, or public transportation including overnight travel inside California
