CAD Draftsman/Mechanical Drafter

Bud Industries is seeking a skilled CAD Draftsman / Mechanical Drafter with strong expertise in 3D modeling using SolidWorks. This role focuses on designing custom and standard electronic enclosures, sheet‑metal housings, and machined components, collaborating with the engineering team and manufacturing staff.

Responsibilities

Interpret customer drawings and samples
Create detailed 3D models of enclosures, assemblies, and machined parts (mostly cutouts)
Produce accurate 2D drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and BOMs (Bill of Materials)
Develop sheet‑metal models, flat patterns, and fabrication‑ready details
Prepare concept/approval drawings for sales and customers
Work with Production Control on Order release and processing
Assist with or generate CNC/VMC machining toolpaths using BobCAD-CAM
Prepare machining strategies for aluminum, and plastic components
Work closely with machinists to ensure manufacturability and efficient toolpaths
Support fixture design and machining documentation
Interpret customer drawings, samples, and specifications
Ensure designs meet form, fit, function, and manufacturing capability requirements
Maintain and update drawings/models for catalog and website use
Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
Support routing, documentation, and manufacturing processes

Required

Associate degree or technical training in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or Engineering Technology
3+ years of CAD drafting experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling
Experience with sheet‑metal design
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail

Preferred

Experience using BobCAD-CAM or other CAM software
Understanding of CNC/VMC machining processes
Experience with electronic enclosures or sheet‑metal products
Familiarity with ERP systems, BOMs, and routings
Knowledge of engineering change processes
