Payroll Manager - Hybrid Remote
firstPRO, Inc is a well-established organization in New Jersey seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee a complex, multi-state payroll operation. This high-impact leadership role requires technical expertise and strong people management skills to ensure compliance and drive payroll strategy.
Responsibilities
Direct and manage full-cycle, multi-state payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now
Ensure accurate payment of wages, salaries, bonuses, commissions, and reimbursements
Manage payroll deductions for benefits, retirement plans, and other employee programs
Oversee compliance with all payroll-related tax regulations
Drive payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and integrations
Prepare payroll analytics and reporting to support audits, finance reviews, and leadership requests
Lead year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation, reconciliation, and filings
Create and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and documentation to support scalability
Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues, employee inquiries, and tax matters
Coach, mentor, and develop payroll staff while setting performance expectations
Qualification
Required
8+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at 4+ years in a leadership role
Strong command of ADP Workforce Now required
Advanced knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and labor laws
Confident communicator with the ability to partner across HR, Finance, and senior leadership
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
