Responsibilities
Trace, create, run, patch, tag, label, and manage cables
Deploy and terminate various types of cable and cross-connections in data centers and at customer offices, which may include fiber, copper, 1G, or 10G cable
Create and update cabling diagrams
Help with and supervise racking, stacking, de-racking, and de-stacking
Handle and help lift and move equipment and cabinets
Provide remote hands for engineers as needed
Work professionally with customers and colleagues
Supervise, train, and assign tasks to junior technicians
Perform other job duties as needed
Qualification
Required
Must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis without assistance
Must be able to safely lift heavier equipment with team assistance or use of appropriate lifting equipment (dollies, carts)
Must be able to reach, bend, and crouch to access equipment in tight or elevated spaces, including server racks at floor and ceiling levels
Must be capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the data center environment for extended periods of time
Must be able to work on ladders or platforms to manage cable runs or hardware in elevated racks
Must be able to do repeated hand and arm movements for cable management, hardware installation, and equipment maintenance
Must be able to use proper body mechanics while adhering to safety guidelines to prevent injury
Extensive experience and knowledge of cabling (low voltage, fiber, cross connects)
Problem-solving, adaptability, proactivity, and the willingness to take on and learn from a wide range of tasks as needed
Preferred
Fiber splicing experience
General network knowledge including, TCP/IP, Layer 2 (VLAN), WAPs, 802.11x, routing, switching
BICSI, C-7, and/or forklift certification
Experience operating heavy machinery and/or driving trucks
Certifications by CompTIA, Cisco, Fortinet, or possessing equivalent knowledge
Cable diagramming experience
