Costing Engineer – Fluid Film Bearings & Defense/Aerospace Machining

Pioneer Motor Bearing Company is a fourth-generation family business that provides bearing engineering and manufacturing services, particularly for power generation and defense/aerospace industries. The Costing Engineer will own the estimating process for repairs and new manufacturing, translating technical inputs into accurate cost and lead time estimates to support the sales team and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Partner with Sales to scope customer needs and deliver the information they need to quote: TVC, labor hours, and realistic lead times
Digest drawings, BOMs, and process/material specs; identify missing details and chase answers quickly
Work across QA, Engineering, and Production to confirm capability and call out exceptions where customer specs exceed our current abilities
Create and maintain estimate quote sheets in Google Drive; build time sheets with setup times and machining formulas that reflect current processes
Mine ERP/CRM history to benchmark similar parts/jobs and refine estimates
Source valid vendor quotes for raw materials; arrange outside services or parts we don’t produce in-house
Provide quick 'ballpark' quotes on tight timelines, with assumptions and limits clearly documented
Support Sales with customer inquiries, from quote status to material substitutions and exceptions
Flag complexity and risk factors so Sales can adjust labor rates accordingly
Step in as cross-trained backup for procurement when the procurement agent is absent

Required

Self-starter who can prioritize and deliver with minimal oversight
Strong organization and leadership in managing deadlines and details
Ability to build rapport across administrative and manufacturing teams
Proficiency reading blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and BOMs; able to create quotation sketches/drawings in CAD
Hands-on understanding of manual/CNC machining, tolerances, and efficient methods
Technical background through education and/or relevant experience
Working knowledge of fluid film bearings, rotating equipment, and bearing manufacturing/repair methods
Comfort with Google Sheets (formulas/functions), spreadsheets, Gmail, documents, virtual meetings, shared calendars, and ERP/CRM (Salesforce)
Ability to maneuver through the plant/yard and climb stairs in tight storage areas
