Responsibilities
Own Production Bioinformatics Systems: Design and build systems to orchestrate production bioinformatics workflows, ensuring they are scalable, performant, auditable, and reproducible
Architect AWS Platforms: Contribute to the architecture of our AWS-based platform and ensure seamless interoperation with external APIs
Partner with Scientific R&D: Collaborate with scientific leadership to translate molecular assay concepts into executable workflows, helping shape algorithmic decisions through an engineering lens
Engineering Excellence: Define and evolve data models for samples, analyses, and lineage/provenance. Optimize the performance of clinical workflows at scale
Infrastructure & CI/CD: Lead documentation efforts, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, and manage cloud environments to ensure robust failure modes and clear data lineage
Leadership & Knowledge Sharing: Establish best practices for bioinformatics engineering, participate in pair programming, and review designs for maintainability
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Computer Science, or a related field
Demonstrated success in designing and contributing to large-scale biomedical data platforms and bioinformatics workflows
Strong fundamentals in fault-tolerant system architecture
Proficiency in Python, and ideally Rust, Go, or C/C++
Solid experience with AWS and designing relational and non-relational schemas/data models
Competency with Git, Agile development, and the software development lifecycle
Proven ability to lead software development projects and work independently on loosely defined problems
Preferred
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Biology, Computer Science, or a related field
Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK) and Nextflow
Familiarity with liquid biopsy, cfDNA, low-input sequencing, and common formats (SAM/BAM, VCF)
Experience in clinical or regulated environments (CAP/CLIA, FDA)
Graph/lineage-focused data modeling, cancer genomics, or a strong statistics background
Prior biotech, molecular diagnostics, or startup experience
