Responsibilities
Perform respiratory care per physician orders and scope of Illinois Respiratory Therapy Practice Act
Provide respiratory therapy interventions to patients in ICU, intermediate units, general floors, and ED
Respond to Rapid Response calls and Blue Alerts as primary airway manager
Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, including high-frequency ventilation, inverse I:E ratio, and advanced ventilation modes
Administer aerosolized medications, medical gases, and specialty gases (Nitrogen, Heliox, Nitric Oxide)
Monitor patient response, assess therapy effectiveness, and recommend changes per patient condition
Document interventions and patient outcomes in accordance with regulatory and TJC/Medicare guidelines
Round with interdisciplinary team in ICU and intermediate units
Qualification
Required
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care
Current Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner License
BLS certification (American Heart Association)
New grads welcome (must have passed NBRC TMC & CSE exams and applied for IL license before orientation)
Understanding of drug-free campus policy; negative drug screen required
Lift objects up to 60 lbs; push/pull equipment up to 35 lbs
Stand up to 4 hours at a time; stoop, bend, reach, and have manual dexterity
Lift and position patients as needed
Communicate effectively and maintain accurate documentation
Color vision required for certain tasks
