Responsibilities

Chairs an Asset Strategy Team (AST). In this capacity, serves as the enterprise leader who is the project’s primary point of contact for Pipeline Governance and senior management
Has a broad vision for the asset and leads the effort to create, articulate and gain endorsement of an integrated cross-functional Global Asset Strategy and Brand Strategy for all aspects of product development, commercialization and lifecycle management and ensures timely, multidirectional and comprehensive interactions with Pipeline Governance within the Pipeline Operating Model, including close liaison with the key governance bodies of Aesthetics Device Governance Board, Tri-Function Review and other ad hoc governance requests within Abbvie
Ability to put asset recommendations in context of Abbvie’s enterprise objectives
Maintains primary responsibility for the ensuing deliverables, including a functionally aligned Global Asset Strategy and Product Development Plan (PDP). Reviews and analyzes emerging data objectively to drive team toward recommendations that highlight opportunities, address potential risks and proactively provide appropriate mitigations
Builds strong, collaborative peer-to-peer relationships with governance team members and executives to enable optimal timely, multi-directional, and comprehensive interactions with PCM Governance at pre-specified milestones and as program issues or opportunities arise
Has a deep understanding of the role and value of each function on the team, to know how to solicit timely input. Collaborates with AST functions to ensure program is appropriately resourced and stays within allocated budget and champions requests for incremental resources when appropriate. Works continually with supporting teams to ensure that strategy and executed plans are consistent with the Target Product Profile (TPP), Asset Plan and PDP, tracking progress in conjunction with the Portfolio Project Manager, with attention to committed timeline and budget
Ensures that the AST continually validates the viability of the program from a scientific and commercial perspective. Develops clear, prospective Go/No-Go decision points and serves as a champion for the program, using objectivity and judgment to analyze, interpret and present data to Pipeline Governance and senior management
Strategic advisor to cross-functional teams (e.g., Global Commercial Team, Global Brand Team, CMC, Integrated evidence strategy team, Value and Access team, Regulatory strategy, etc.)
Ensure development and alignment with deliverable team co-chairs for key plan deliverables such as the Integrated Evidence Plan, Regulatory Strategy plans, Brand plans, Operations LRP plans
Establishes close, ongoing ties with across Asset and deliverable team members and enables a culture of inclusivity, psychological safety, and empowerment. Maintains a function-neutral position in prioritizing actions and making decisions, with an eye toward optimizing asset and portfolio value in a timely and high-quality fashion. Coaches and mentors team members, consistent with the High Performing Teams (HPT) model. Enables the AST to focus on strategy and decision-making, and optimal communication of issues to supporting teams and leadership
Represents the AST at interactions with external parties (e.g., Advisory Boards, regulatory interactions) when these engagements require broad cross-functional contributions. Exhibits exceptional executive presence and clear communication with all levels of management
Works with team members to maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the competitive environment in the field and to assess for potential impact on ongoing programs. Stays abreast of professional information, industry trends, and emerging technology through conferences, medical literature, and training to augment expertise in drug development and the pharmaceutical industry. Develops a comprehensive understanding of how AbbVie’s assets are positioned relative to competitor assets
Understands what’s important, and focuses the team and stakeholders there as well. Asks the right question and seeks all points of view in order to find the best path forward

Required

Bachelor's Degree required
Relevant experience (minimum of 5 years to 8 years) as a leader in a pharmaceutical/biotech Commercial, R&D, Regulatory or Operations setting; deep expertise in a relevant discipline associated with drug development and /or commercialization and ideally experienced in multiple areas of the industry, often with multiple therapy areas, phases of development
Demonstrated a high-level of strategic thinking, leadership, and problem-solving, with the ability to swiftly apply new knowledge to asset strategy and enterprise priorities
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and elicit top performance from teams in a cross functional, highly matrixed pharmaceutical/biotech environment, preferably with global scope, in any discipline which involves a broad understanding of all phases of drug commercialization
Ability to objectively exercise judgment and create pragmatic solutions to address complex cross-functional problems, and to be accountable for obtaining stakeholder advice to make informed decisions, to move a program forward in the face of uncertainty or incomplete data
Demonstrated ability to communicate with and influence senior executives
Experience of how different elements (discovery, development, regulatory, commercial etc.) fit together in the drug commercialization lifecycle and has demonstrable ability to rapidly assimilate new knowledge of relevance to drug development and commercialization
Deep expertise in the strategy and execution for commercialization of drugs including R&D, Regulatory, Commercial and /or Manufacturing
Ability to delegate appropriate accountability and decision-making to supporting teams and functions

Preferred

Advanced (Doctoral-level or MBA) degree highly preferred
10+ years preferred experience as a leader in a pharmaceutical/biotech Commercial, R&D, Regulatory or Operations setting
Ideally experienced across multiple device product development, particular emphasis on facial aesthetics programs
Individuals with who have had the experience of following a single asset and associated brands through all the phases of the development and commercialization of a single asset will be preferred but achieving as an aggregate of experience across multiple assets is also acceptable
