The Director of Budgets will serve as a key strategic partner to the CFO and senior leadership, leading the organization’s budgeting function across operating, programmatic, grant, and contract budgets.

Responsibilities
Lead the development, submission, and management of annual operating, program, grant, and contract budgets
Partner with department heads and program leadership to ensure budgets align with organizational goals and funder requirements
Supervise and mentor the Budget team, including a Budget Manager and Senior Budget Analyst
Manage budget modifications and ensure timely, accurate submissions to funders
Collaborate closely with Accounting, Revenue, and Development teams to support cohesive financial planning
Provide strategic financial guidance to senior leadership on contracts, programs, and funding decisions
Maintain strong working relationships with funder contacts to resolve issues efficiently
Deliver training and guidance to program teams on budget management and compliance
Ensure budgets are accurately aligned with contracts, grants, and accounting systems
Maintain expertise in funder systems and portals, including PASSPort, NYC DHS, and other city/state/federal funding sources
Implement and improve processes and tools to enhance budget accuracy, efficiency, and reporting
Prepare ad hoc financial and budget reports as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
5+ years of nonprofit or government accounting experience with hands-on budget development and analysis
2+ years of managerial or supervisory experience
Strong, hands-on knowledge of NYC DHS funding and compliance requirements
Proficiency with budget management systems and advanced Excel skills
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
