Responsibilities

Inspect damaged vehicles to determine the full extent of the damage, estimate repair costs, and document all required parts and labor
Remove and replace damaged body parts, including fenders, doors, hoods, and bumpers, using hand and power tools
Repair damaged panels by hammering out or patching dents, removing rust, and filling depressions with body filler
Perform structural and frame alignment using specialized equipment to restore the vehicle's structural integrity
Weld, rivet, or bond replacement panels and other components into place
Prepare repaired surfaces for painting by grinding, sanding, and masking areas not to be painted
Assist with or perform the application of primer, paint, and clear coat to match the vehicle's original finish
Inspect and test repaired vehicles for proper functioning, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality of workmanship
Communicate with the parts department to order necessary components
Document all work performed on repair orders accurately
Interact with customers and insurance adjusters professionally to explain repairs and address concerns
Operate all equipment in a safe manner and adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal and safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent
Previous experience in an auto body repair shop setting
Proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools, including welders, sanders, and paint spray guns
Strong knowledge of automotive repair techniques, welding, and refinishing
Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics and systems (e.g., airbags, suspension)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Good communication and customer service skills
Effective time management and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift heavy parts and equipment

Preferred

Vocational certificate or associate degree in automotive body repair technology
ASE Certification or I-CAR certification
Manufacturer-specific training
