Seasonal Staff Accountant
Herbert Financial Group is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This role involves managing financial functions including general ledger management, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliation
Conduct accounts payable and receivable processing, ensuring timely payments and collections
Perform bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor financial health
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
Ensure compliance with SOX controls and other regulatory reporting standards
Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
Support audits through preparation of documentation and coordination with auditors
Participate in internal control processes related to securities law, nonprofit accounting (such as LIHTC), governmental accounting, or corporate finance as applicable
Assist with tax preparation and compliance activities when necessary
Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements within the accounting department
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred
Proven experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, or non-profit accounting environments
Strong knowledge of GAAP, technical accounting standards, and financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits
Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are essential
Familiarity with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, securities law, governmental accounting standards, and regulatory reporting is highly desirable
Experience with financial statement preparation, financial report writing & interpretation, account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and audit support
Knowledge of financial management practices including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial analysis techniques
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; excellent organizational and time management abilities
Ability to mentor team members and communicate complex financial information effectively
Preferred
CPA or equivalent certification preferred
Familiarity with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, securities law, governmental accounting standards, and regulatory reporting is highly desirable
