Responsibilities

Helping fumigation trials using ethyl formate, phosphine, sulfuryl fluoride, and methyl bromide
Conducting controlled heat, cold, and irradiation treatments
Maintaining insect colonies
Preparing commodities for treatment
Collecting efficacy and quality data
Participating in experimental execution
Routine laboratory and chamber operations
Contributing to the evaluation of treatment performance, including insect mortality, dose–response relationships, and tolerance of treated commodities

Required

The qualified candidate should have received or be currently pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in the one of the relevant fields (Entomology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biological or Agricultural Sciences, or related fields). Degree must have been received in the past five years or be currently pursuing with anticipation to receive by the appointment start date
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
Degree: Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree

Preferred

Experience in commodity quality evaluation, and/or postharvest treatment
The fellow should be fluent in spoken and written English, and have excellent communication skills
The candidate must demonstrate a solid ability to perform independently and enjoy working in a group environment
Experience with gas chromatography
Experience with insect rearing
Experience with quality evaluation of fruit, flower and/or potted plants
Strong interpersonal and organization skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience and publication record in related field
