Responsibilities
Lead development of the company’s first HV switchgear offering for the U.S. utility and developer market
Define technical requirements for a modern HV switchgear platform, including design priorities, performance targets, safety requirements, and qualification milestones
Review global technologies and architectures to determine suitability or adaptability for U.S. applications
Assess potential technology transfer or acquisition targets, including IP strength, manufacturability, lifecycle cost, risk, and alignment with U.S. standards
Translate customer specifications, utility standards, and IEEE/ANSI requirements into clear engineering direction for design teams
Evaluate electrical design elements such as interrupters, contact systems, arc-quenching technologies, insulation methods, busbar configurations, dielectric performance, and short-circuit capabilities
Oversee mechanical design direction, including enclosures, structures, operating mechanisms, linkage systems, thermal behavior, seismic considerations, and environmental protection
Lead integration of controls and protection systems including relays, sensors, monitoring, SCADA interfaces, and control cabinet design
Collaborate closely with global engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturability, safety, and reliability
Develop the qualification pathway for the first product, including type testing, FAT procedures, certification, and utility acceptance processes
Partner with sourcing and operations to define component strategy, materials, and supply chain requirements
Work with applications engineering and sales to support customer conversations and ensure technical alignment with market needs
Build internal engineering standards, design rules, workflows, and review processes for the HV switchgear product line
Bring a startup mindset and help establish systems, tools, and processes as the product line scales
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in HV switchgear design, engineering management, or product development
Deep technical knowledge spanning electrical, mechanical, and controls engineering
Strong understanding of U.S. HV switchgear design practices, utility standards, and qualification pathways
Experience launching new switchgear products or adapting global designs for the U.S. market
Ability to evaluate multiple technology pathways and recommend optimal technical and commercial approaches
Comfortable collaborating with global engineering and manufacturing teams
Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly convey design intent to internal and external stakeholders
Experience in a startup or fast-moving new-product environment, or a strong desire to operate in such a setting
Preferred
Experience assessing technology transfer or acquisition targets preferred
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Candidates with mechanical or controls backgrounds and deep switchgear experience will also be considered
