Insurance Regulatory Counsel
First Acceptance Insurance Company (FAIC) specializes in underwriting and servicing insurance policies and related products. The Insurance Regulatory Counsel will provide legal and business advice focusing on property and casualty insurance operations, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations governing the insurance industry.
Responsibilities
Possess a deep understanding of the insurance industry, including the applicable state and federal laws and regulations related to property and casualty insurance
Conduct legal research of laws and regulations related to auto insurance, property and casualty insurance, privacy, data security, and any other issues relevant to public insurance companies
Monitor and stay current with industry trends and developments
Draft, review, update and manage insurance policies and other documents related to property and casualty insurance in all business states
Provide legal advice and counsel to leadership and internal stakeholders on property and casualty insurance matters
Represent the company in meetings and hearings with external stakeholders
Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing tasks effectively
Accurately assess and manage risk through knowledge of First Acceptance’s business and relevant legal issues, including reconciling the implication of past precedent with current and future needs
Develop a thorough understanding of First Acceptance’s business and processes to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
Maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies
Establish strong collaborative relationships with other departments to understand and consider their needs while ensuring regulatory compliance
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and bar license in good standing. Licensed or willing to become licensed in Tennessee
At least 3-5 years of relevant legal and insurance experience
Previous property and casualty insurance regulatory compliance experience
In-house insurance department or department of insurance experience highly valued
Experience handling regulatory filings and audits, market conduct review and industry data inquiries, claims, and underwriting policies and best practices
Insurance policy contract and forms drafting and management experience highly valued
Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the insurance industry
Must possess strong judgment, confidence, collaborative problem-solving skills, and the ability to spot potential issues quickly
Must be able to independently handle a variety of legal assignments under supervision of more experienced legal counsel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to set priorities and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
Ability to travel if required

Experience with Agile project management practices
