Accountant III
The N.C. Department of Information Technology is dedicated to enhancing the economy and vitality of North Carolina through efficient transportation services. They are seeking an Accountant III to manage the General Ledger Unit in the absence of the unit manager, which includes responsibilities such as reconciling accounts, analyzing warrant statuses, and participating in the development and implementation of new procedures in SAP.

Responsibilities
Perform the duties of the General Ledger Unit Manager in his/her absence
Work with the manager in assigning and monitoring the daily task of the General Ledger Unit staff
Understand system integration and the impact of integration as they carry out their own duties as well as in the direction and training of other employees
Understand the operations of each General Ledger employee and how those operations impact follow-on operations and eventually reporting in SAP
Have access to and be able to carry out any duty assigned to the unit or unit manager
Reconciling the Warrant account with the State Treasurer’s Office
Analyzing warrant status to determine necessary treatment
Notify other agencies of outstanding warrants in a timely manner in accordance with State Controller’s mandate
Reissue, cancel or escheat as required
Analyze and research unusual problems occurring in the accounting system and work with the General Ledger Unit Manager and BSIP functional team for resolution
Actively participate in the development, testing and implementation of new procedures in SAP
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework
Four years of professional accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting, financial statements and reports
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) practices
Knowledge of current accounting and financial management systems
Experience interpreting and applying complex Federal and State fiscal regulations
Experience in using accounting judgement and theory to independently resolve fiscal issues, provide technical guidance, and present results of analysis to program administrators
