Server & Cloud Engineer - Tier 2

The System & Cloud Engineer – Tier II is responsible for supporting and optimizing server and cloud environments, resolving complex infrastructure issues, and ensuring service reliability across multiple client infrastructures.

Responsibilities

Serve as Tier II escalation for complex server, virtualization, and cloud-related incidents
Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving:
Windows Server OS failures
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
Azure AD / Entra ID identity and authentication issues
Hyper-V, VMware, and cloud virtualization failures
Lead remediation efforts for server outages, performance degradation, and authentication failures
Participate in root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews for major incidents
Support Service Delivery and Recovery Programs during client stabilization events
Administer and support multi-tenant cloud environments (primarily Azure; AWS/GCP as applicable)
Perform advanced cloud operations including:
Virtual machine provisioning and migrations
Azure resource configuration and policy enforcement
Identity and access management updates
Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations
Ensure infrastructure aligns with MSP architecture standards and security baselines
Monitor system health, capacity, and performance across multiple clients
Execute complex service requests including:
Server rebuilds and upgrades
VM migrations and platform conversions
Azure deployments and configuration changes
Identity restructuring and security enhancements
Validate scope, risks, and dependencies before execution
Coordinate with Demand / Service Request Coordinators to ensure correct prioritization and scheduling
Ensure all work is documented, tested, and transitioned cleanly
Follow ITIL-aligned Incident, Change, and Request Management processes
Prepare and execute infrastructure changes in accordance with change management standards
Maintain accurate configuration documentation, diagrams, and SOPs
Update knowledge articles and contribute to standardization efforts
Ensure audit-ready documentation for compliance-sensitive clients
Provide guidance and technical mentoring to Tier I Engineers
Support Project Engineering teams during implementations or transitions
Collaborate with:
Tower Leads
Security & Compliance teams
Service Delivery Directors
VCIO / vCISO advisory functions (as needed)
Act as a technical point of contact during escalations or recovery efforts
Participate in a structured on-call rotation for critical infrastructure incidents
Respond to after-hours alerts for server, cloud, and identity system failures
Ensure proper handoff and documentation following after-hours incidents
Support service continuity and uptime commitments across the client base

Required

5+ years of experience in systems engineering, cloud engineering, or MSP infrastructure support
Strong hands-on experience with: Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), Microsoft Azure infrastructure and identity services
Experience supporting multiple client environments simultaneously
Ability to independently troubleshoot high-severity infrastructure issues
Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field
Experience working in a remote-first MSP environment
Exposure to hybrid cloud architectures and multi-tenant MSP tooling
Experience supporting regulated or security-sensitive environments (e.g., healthcare)
