Responsibilities

Prepares weekly and daily work schedules and directs the activities of employees working in the Produce Department
Is responsible for the staffing, training and overall development of employees working in the Produce Department
Ensures that employees are proficient in weighing, slicing, cutting, and merchandising all produce to remain within required Health Department regulations
Maintains a high profit margin in accordance to approved pre-set budget, which entails, but not limited to: sales goals; cost of goods; expenses, price changes, and waste management
Manages and assures high quality and proper quantity of product via proper ordering and receiving
Orders and receives products and practices proper invoice routing
Examines product bought for resale or received for storage
Manages and assures proper displaying and selling of produce items
Advises customers on the quality and best methods of handling produce items, and other factors affecting their ripening and storage
Maintains the produce department under current health codes and Bristol Farms standards on sanitation and cleanliness; this includes all cases and backroom storage locations
Has the ability to learn computer applications such as, but not limited to Microsoft Excel
Reports industrial accidents when they occur; follows proper procedures for reporting, documenting, and investigating employee accidents
Responsible for entire Produce Department in serving customers with excellent service and adhering to the 15 Second Service Policy
Serves customers with a smile and willing attitude. Assures high sales through establishing relationships with customers to ensure repeat business
Handles customer complaints in such a manner to assure customer satisfaction
At all times, meets and exceeds Bristol Farms standards in service, quality, and cleanliness
Directly supervises employees in the department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bristol Farms policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; verbally rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
The Produce Manager is expected to provide customer service that is extraordinary and exceeds the expectations of our customers. They are required to follow established policies and guidelines that go beyond simply smiling and greeting customers. Going above and beyond encompasses attitudes, respect, and flexibility. The Produce Manager is expected to have a positive “can-do” attitude; to treat others with respect; and easily adjust to changes in the workplace

Required

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); college degree preferred; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, or employees of the organization
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to analyze situations, think through to a solution and implement the solution
The candidate must have the ability to speak, read and understand English
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell
The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
