Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day legal advice on employment law matters, including accommodations, classification, compensation, discipline, hiring, leaves of absence, separations and workplace investigations
Advise HR and Retail teams on wage and hour compliance, including timekeeping, overtime, meal and rest periods, sick time and paid leave
Draft, revise and update company-wide employment policies, agreements, notices and communications to ensure alignment with legal requirements and best practices
Partner with HR, Payroll, and People Operations teams to ensure compliant implementation of employment laws, policies, and programs
Monitor changes in U.S. and international employment laws, with a focus on key retail markets
Support the drafting and implementation of international policies and employment contracts
Provide training and guidance to managers on compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations
Qualification
Required
J.D. from a top tier law school
Active bar membership in California
3-5+ years of experience in employment law at a top law firm and/or company
Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal wage and hour laws across several jurisdictions, with deep expertise in California employment law
Practical, business-minded approach with the ability to provide clear, actionable guidance in a fast-paced setting
Ability to balance many projects simultaneously and complete tasks accurately, on schedule and with minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Experience supporting an international workforce
Retail, hospitality, or another consumer-facing environment experience
