Assistant Grocery Manager

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly service
Assist customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling techniques (telephone, intercom, and one‑on‑one interactions)
Answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer complaints and escalate to Store Director when needed
Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director
Assist with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes in accordance with company procedures and profitability guidelines
Build grocery displays, rotate stock, and remove outdated or spoiled product
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area and the department
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; assist in coordinating grocery sales promotions
Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, well‑displayed, and that shelves are clean and properly maintained
Follow and maintain all department standards and requirements
Ensure proper code dating is enforced for all department products
Control inventory to maintain adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness
Maintain inventory levels according to division directives; stock and rotate product regularly
Assist with ordering grocery products and maintaining proper in‑stock conditions
Supervise processing of reclamation and maintain organized conditions in the back room and grocery areas
Prepare sales and inventory reports, including conducting physical inventory every six months
Monitor shrink and control costs
Monitor employee productivity to ensure performance expectations are met
May schedule employees to ensure proper coverage and service levels
Maintain knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including opening/closing, Dairy, and Frozen
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees in store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping processes
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
Implement correct product preparation techniques
Safely use and operate related equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and the Sterilox machine
