Senior System Design and Analysis, Space Nuclear

The Senior System Designer and Analyst will support the Advanced Concepts and Engineering Formulation nuclear group by conducting structural and thermal analysis for complex space and human-certified systems, guiding teams to align system architecture with strategic goals.

Responsibilities
Working with emerging and existing advanced concept program organizations to distill high level requirements into power and rocket propulsion system derived requirements
Rapidly assess conceptual designs, perform system trade and configuration studies, and develop integrated design solutions
Develop structural and thermal analysis on system and components determine optimal configurations to support mission needs
Establish initial design and configurations of aerospace systems with mass and power assessments and providing inputs to customers for sizing of components
Define vehicle and component configurations to support mission goals
Lead technical designers and drive newly developed system from early layout to initial production releasing command media to support
Assessing needs to onramp lower TRL technologies, and the respective cost and risk benefits
Developing and maturing high level system requirements and verification methodologies as well as risk assessments, collaborating with the Systems Engineering organization
Establish relationships, represent the program and report out technical data to external customers such as national labs, universities and government agencies
Work with engine and component test groups to develop test and risk reduction plans
Perform Mission Analysis with a propulsion focus, flying the vehicle/stage/spacecraft across the mission conops to optimize engine design characteristics and determine failure modes
Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field
7+ years proven experience in the design, development, and flight operations of liquid rocket engines or spacecraft mechanisms/components
Proficient in the challenges, technologies, and historical system solutions endemic to the space environment and have knowledge in several subject areas such as propulsion, fluids, management, mechanisms, control systems
Proficient with design and analysis tools (Ansys, Fluent, etc)
Proven understanding in the use of 3-D CAD tools (Creo is helpful) and configuration and data management software (Windchill, JAZZ, Doors, JAMA)
Must be able to obtain [secret] clearance
Preferred
Experience with proposal support and leadership (technical/management volumes, Task Description/Basis-of-Estimate development, etc.)
Experience working with U.S. Government research agencies (e.g. NASA, AFRL, DARPA)
Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission-critical systems
Experience with component and system level development for space-flight environments
Experience developing requirements, defining subsystem interfaces (both in-house and between external partners/suppliers), and other systems engineering products and practices
Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through field support)
Experience with DFX tools and processes
Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes
