WORKDAY MIGRATION ENGINEER

Responsibilities

Lead lift-and-shift migration of Workday integrations from AWS to GCP
Migrate Workday integration patterns including:
EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder)
RaaS (Reports-as-a-Service)
Workday REST/SOAP APIs
SFTP-based file integrations
Ensure zero or minimal functional change to Workday business processes
Migrate AWS services to GCP equivalents, including:
S3 → Cloud Storage
Redshift → BigQuery
EMR / Glue → Dataproc / Dataflow / Cloud Composer
Lambda → Cloud Functions / Cloud Run
Kinesis → Pub/Sub
Recreate landing zones, data pipelines, and orchestration workflows on GCP
Support hybrid connectivity during migration and parallel runs
Perform like-for-like rehosting of workloads without optimization during migration
Plan and execute migration waves with rollback strategies
Coordinate cutover, DNS changes, scheduler updates, and downstream consumer validation
Support parallel run and reconciliation between AWS and GCP outputs
Implement IAM least-privilege access models on GCP
Manage secrets using GCP Secret Manager
Ensure encryption in transit and at rest
Support audit, compliance, and data privacy requirements (PII, SOC, GDPR as applicable)
Maintain security documentation and data flow diagrams
Perform data validation and reconciliation (row counts, control totals, checksums)
Support performance benchmarking and SLA validation
Participate in hypercare and post-migration stabilization
Assist in decommissioning AWS resources post-cutover

Required

5+ years of experience supporting Workday integrations
Strong understanding of EIB, RaaS, Workday APIs, and SFTP integrations
Experience working with HR, Payroll, Finance, or HCM data domains
7+ years of cloud engineering or data engineering experience
Strong hands-on experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, EMR, Glue, Redshift, IAM)
Strong hands-on experience with GCP (Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Dataflow/Dataproc, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, IAM)
Proven experience executing lift-and-shift (rehost) migrations
Experience with batch and near-real-time data pipelines
Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow / Cloud Composer)
SQL proficiency and experience validating large datasets
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred)
Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash)
Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments
Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills
Ability to work with PMO-led migration programs

Preferred

Experience with Workday–BigQuery integrations
GCP Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect certification
Experience with HR analytics platforms or downstream BI tools
Prior experience with parallel runs and phased cutovers
