The PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY is seeking an Explosives Safety Specialist (Ordnance) to serve in the Range Safety Division. The role involves coordinating procedures for ordnance and providing technical direction for the handling, storage, and disposal of explosive materials.

Responsibilities

You will coordinate and ensure the adequacy of procedures involving ordnance, missiles, rockets and energetic targets employed by all Range users
You will provide technical direction for transportation, handling, storage, testing, firing and disposal of such vehicles and/or devices
You will be responsible to the LCO for monitoring the actions of personnel during pre-launch and launch operations, if called upon to serve as the Pad Safety Officer (PSO)
You will establish Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for all new and modified ground handling and firing events, which includes ordnance operations, missile assembly, launcher loading and missile firings
You will monitor the performance and provide periodic technical performance evaluation of the operations and maintenance Contractor in the operation and maintenance of Launch, Missile Assembly and torpedo facilities and functions
You will provide technical direction to all aspects of ordnance events

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing expertise of explosives safety laws, policies, regulations, rules, and procedures to manage ordnance operations

A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.64% will be added to the stated salary.
