Responsibilities
Advise and represent public agencies, agricultural interests, and tribal entities on environmental and water law matters
Handle advisory, transactional, and litigation matters involving regulatory compliance and water rights
Prepare pleadings, discovery responses, and filings for litigation and adversarial proceedings
Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on environmental statutes, regulations, and public governance laws
Draft client memoranda, legal opinions, and law and motion documents
Manage written discovery with limited supervision and high attention to detail
Communicate directly with clients to explain legal strategies, risks, and procedural developments
Develop strategic plans and courses of action tailored to client goals and regulatory frameworks
Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on complex, multi-faceted legal matters
Qualification
Required
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in environmental law and/or water law
Working knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and conflicts of interest laws
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple matters independently and meet deadlines
Admission to the State Bar of California in good standing
Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and strong work ethic
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and follow-through abilities
Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Commitment to high-quality legal work and client service
Preferred
Prior experience working with public sector clients strongly preferred
